Colcord, Oklahoma!
During Old Settler's Day, we will be a part of many events throughout town all day: a parade, hog fry, car show, crafts, music, etc. In addition, the Colcord Rodeo will be held nightly June 6 and 7.
At Old Settler's Day, Talbot Library and Museum ( TL&M) will host our annual Book and Bake Sale. We plan to host several musicians as well as offering homemade hamburger dinners for sale.
For the first time, TL&M will also host representatives of the Colcord Post Office who will offer for sale commemorative pre-stamped, postmarked envelopes with. The stamp says:
"Old Settler’s Day, Colcord, OK 1929-2014”
This will be a unique remembrance of this special day, as well as a valuable item for collectors.
Background: The annual Colcord "Picnic" has been held since 1929, celebrating the community and the pioneers who settled the area. Prior to 1928, the community was known as Row, a post office was established there in 1903. The town was later named after Charles F. Colcord, a prominent Oklahoman and benefactor to the community.
