Saturday, June 7, 2014, Old Settlers Day, Colcord, Oklahoma!
Talbot Library and Museum will host their annual Book and Bake Sale. We expect to be hosting several musicians, as well as offering homemade hamburger dinners for sale. There will be authors having book signings in the historical Springtown Schoolhouse on the property as well.
For the first time, Talbot’s will also host representatives of the Colcord Post Office, offering for sale commemorative ‘Old Settler’s Day, Colcord, OK 1929-2014” pre-stamped, postmarked envelopes. This will be a unique remembrance of this special day, as well as a valuable item for collectors.
The annual Colcord Picnic has been held since 1929, celebrating the community and the pioneers who settled the area. Prior to 1928, the community was known as Row, a post office was established there in 1903. The town was later named after Charles F. Colcord, a prominent Oklahoman and benefactor to the community.
There will be many events throughout town all day, parade, hog fry, crafts, music, etc. The Colcord Rodeo will be held nightly June 6 and 7.

GOINGSNAKE DISTRICT HERITAGE ASSOCIATION MEETING AT TALBOT LIBRARY AND MUSEUM, JULY 21, 2012
Talbot’s was again pleased to host the July meeting of the Goingsnake Association, in the”COOL” Springtown Schoolhouse on the Library/Museum property. Marybelle Chase gave a very interesting program on her June visit to England with a Cherokee delegation marking the 250th anniversary of the "Emissaries of Peace" journey to London in 1762. The tour group was led by representatives from the Cherokee Nation, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. A video was also shown of the many sites and people they visited on this historic trip. The program was followed by a wonderful pot luck lunch, and visiting in the Schoolhouse and the Talbot Library and Museum. We wish to thank the many people that joined us on such a very hot day.
