The first issue of the Cherokee Phoenix was published on February 21, 1828 in New Echota, Georgia. It became the voice of the Cherokee People. It was printed in both Cherokee and English, the editor was Elias Boudinot. This book covers the growth of the Phoenix until 1834, and later in 1844, its rebirth in the Cherokee Nation West as the Cherokee Advocate. The Advocate was printed from 1844-1863 and from 1870 until it closed in 1906. This is a remarkable history of Indian journalism, including photographs as well. Hardcover, 578 pages.
