by C.S. Lasater;
A new book, recently published in 2015. This is a very interesting family and local history by the author about her Howdeshell family of Benton County, Arkansas. It involves their experiences before, during, and after the Civil War in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Indian Territory. It is a wealth of local history, mentioning towns of Maysville, Double Springs/Bloomfield, Bentonville, Hico/Siloam Springs,as well as early settlers Chastain, Sager, and many others. The family consisted of eleven sons, some of which were involved with Gen. Stand Waitie and his Confederate troops in Indian Territory, Boggy Depot and the battles of Cabin Creek and Honey Springs. The families living in this area during this time period could not be untouched by the conflict around them. The book would be a good reference for anyone having family in N.W. Arkansas and Indian Territory during the Civil War years. Paperback, 336 pages.
