Caught In The Maelstrom - The Indian Nations In The Civil War 1861-1865
by Clint Crowe
This is a new book, published in 2019, concerning the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole tribes during this difficult time. These tribes joined and fought for the Union and the Confederacy while also fighting their own bloody civil war on lands surrounded by Kansas, Arkansas and Texas. The author has done extensive research about these struggles by the tribes, and their divisions internally. Union and Confederate authorities used these divisions within the tribes to further their own strategic goals as well. He also writes of the postwar meetings and treaties that forever changed so many lives. Dr. Clint Crowe is Assistant Professor of History and Political Science at Tulsa Community College. Hardcover, w/dustcover, 261 pages, including photos, maps and index.
